An important strategy for success and also one of the most consistent traits of extremely successful people is that they put a priority on their time and their calendar. Stephen Covey taught us that “things that matter most should never be at the mercy of things that matter least”. You can tell a lot about a person by looking at their calendar. Have you looked at yours? Do you control your calendar or does your calendar control you?
Here are 3 important tips for taking control of your life. The strategy for success lies behind planning your life around the things that will bring you massive success, instead of massive stress and headache.
- Determine the 1st things in your life: Sounds simple but have you truly identified the first things in your life. Family, God, Work, Recreation, a Cause or Mission, etc.
- Schedule these priorities into your calendar: That which gets scheduled, gets done! So, put these priorities into your calendar and commit time to them.
- Keep your calendar in sight: Out of sight, out of mind. Keep your calendar close to you. If you use google calendar or some online calendar system, print up your week and color code things so you know what things are what. i.e. Blue = work, Red = family time, Green = Workouts, etc.
We all get 168 hours in a week and if you factor in the 1/3 of our life that we spend sleeping, we only have 114 waking hours. How you spend those hours and with whom you spend those hours will determine who you become and how much happiness and success you have. Why not create a blueprint for how you plan on spending your life ahead of time so that success is a given? Utilize this strategy for success in everything in you do.
